Battlefield 2 Bad company review

Battlefield (or at least its manufacturers) have been trying to keep up (they have not been going well) with the growing Call Of Duty franchise for a few years now. Let's see what their latest one is like.

Battlefield 2 starts out in the Pacific War. You are a character in a small squad sneaking up on an isolated island where a secret weapon on the Japanese is being kept your raft is spotted and shot. You somehow make it ashore and link up with your squad. You then start clearing some trenches full of Japanese soldiers and then assault and airfield (or something like it) and hijack a jeep to get you to the sub base with the doctor you have picked up along the way. As you are leaving however the weapon is triggered and you die! Yay!

Now you are in an apocalyptic world where Russia is taking over the world, where America is one of the last free countries left. You are a character in a small squad fighting just north of the city Petropavlovsk, trying to hunt a secret weapon that is to be used in the invasion of America. You do eventually get the weapon after some intense moments in your escape.

You continue to search for this weapon and will eventually destroy it, but not before killing just about everybody in South America. You criss-cross all over the place hunting this Russian general and his weapon, making lots of enemies along the way and just about nuking a small city in the mountains.

The changing of conditions is a bit sudden but is something like what you can expect in the tropics. And the end of the campaign is pretty good, but somewhere in the middle it loses itself a bit and is a bit random.

Once you have completed the campaign, you can access many other extras on the game such as:
Online
Campaign challenges
Battlefield Vietnam.

The online play suffers some of the same faults as the campaign and another part suffers due to the lack of players, as they are either playing COD or not playing at all, also the graphics on the game are rather poor in comparison to COD.

In an effort to become more realistic, Battlefield does have bullet flight in it. Bullet flight is when the bullet falls from its path due to gravity pulling it towards earth. This is however very patchy as it only happens to rockets and the M95 sniper rifle during the game.

The weapons featured in Battlefield are all realistic and all are real weapons. (except for the two-shot AK) We do like this as games have either weapons that are not current with the game or the name them in-correctly (COD does both of the above).

Accessing Battlefield Vietnam from Battlefield 2 is a big plus. You only pay for one game and instead you can access two. That is something I would have liked to have heard about when it was coming out.

The campaign challenges are extremely dull and pretty pointless actually trying to complete any of them. The graphics are either a like or hate thing in the game and really do fall behind those of COD

Things we like:
Some weapons not featured in COD.
Destructible landscapes.
Finally a modern shooting game that has you operating a tank.
Two game for one. Everybody loves a free game.
Realistic weapons (mostly)

Thinks we do not like:
Authenticity- an EMP burst does not cause a tidal wave.
The rifle in the 1943 level is not Japanese and neither is the jeep and the weapon they use.
The variations of the AK, there is no AK with a two-shot burst.
Bullet drop is very limited.
Unlimited range on the RPG and the shotguns, really?
Do Main Battle Tanks and Armoured Personnel Carriers look the same? NO!
Another BULLSHIT theme where Russia takes over everything. Is there some law against Russians being good guys?!
The attack helicopters take two hits with an RPG or a TOW. BULLSHIT!
The Stinger missile is not fucking wire-guided!

Is it any good?

5.5/10. (gtfo) (N)
Even though it is probably good value and in some cases is more realistic than COD. It is let down by very dull game play and authenticity is very, VERY bad. This is a game we struggled to like even though we tried.
Save your money for the new one, and even then exercise caution. Available on PS3, XBOX 360, PC.

Until next time"
