Randy: I keep getting confused between GoldenEye and Minecraft.
Mitch: Oh yeah, the resemblance between GoldenEye and Minecraft is uncanny.
Killzone 3 review.

Killzone. This is probably one the best titles in games today. (This is not saying much though as it is either COD or Halo.) This is one of the unfortunate series not to gain much attention from anyone.
I will venture into the latest game (Killzone 3) and see whether I should have done something else.

The whole series of Killzone is a bit star wars. You are the ISA (whatever the fuck it stands for.) and in the first Killzone, you are being invaded by the Helgast (whoever the hell they are.). You start on the front lines, trying to stop the Helgast from breaking through your lines. You then venture behind their lines in an effort to save a spy (senior front line spy). Once you do save him, your leading general, Vaughton is betrayed and shot by your own general Adams who controls a satellite weapons system. You eventually tear through half of occupied territory in an effort to kill the fucker. You do this and escape the satellite just as the thing is getting shat on by all angles.

The second, you are still the ISA but now you are invading the world of the Helgast, trying to over throw their dictator, Scholar Visari. You will yet again find characters along the way and are forced to take a longer route to over-throw Visari. You fight through a world not to dis-similar to your own to prevent your world from getting nuked again.

The third one is the ISA again and still on the Helgan planet. You have over-thrown their leader, Visari. This however has done very little to stop the Helgast military aggression towards you. Your main forces have pulled out and you are in a race against time and a massive fucking army to get to some of the last remaining transport to get the hell out of there.

The actual war-like gaming experience that every action/shooting game that all companies strive for is found here. You can actually picture yourself fighting a war, and fighting under these circumstances. I am quite impressed with what the makers of Killzone (Guerrilla) have done in this area.

Guerrilla have also put enough effort into making this game. You can see this in the landscapes and the interaction during the game. You can actually hear your other characters and the Helgast talking to each other or you and you do actually move to set explosives, hit switches, etc. The best interaction without a doubt is the melee attacks, they are fucking great (pwned) ! The lack of cost-cutting in this area earns two thumbs up. That is a lot of thumbs up!

The graphics are almost believable and are also another thing that they have done right and that other manufacturers should look at. The graphics have not advanced that far from the first Killzone, this being said however, it is likely because the graphics in the first Killzone beat even some modern day games. (FYI the first Killzone was released in 2004. Yes the graphics were that good, even on crappy consoles.)

Keeping with the tradition of Killzone, there is a multiplayer section of Killzone. This is also a very good part of Killzone as the multiplayer section allows for:
Solo and group games.
An actual variation of difficulty for the computer drones (from easy where you should only get killed by a shotgun or grenade-type explosive, to hard where you need to have some skill to do well.)
Many of the best landscapes are featured as well as some random ones that are also very enjoyable.
The option of playing on either side or with each other.

There is of course an online section to Killzone. The online section has the same objective missions as well as the death matches and all out free-for-alls. The game does take a bit from COD in that it does have varying classes. These classes have pre-set weapons abilities, unlike other pre-set classes, all of these classes are useful and can be used for whatever situation they are designed for.

There is of course a downside to the game. The story line in Killzone 3 is nowhere near as effective or as likable as the previous Killzones. The characters are also not as good as characters featured in previous Killzones. I do miss the no-shit and fuck everything attitude from Rico in previous Killzones. (facepalm)

Things we like: (Y) (Y) (Y)
The gameplay is very enjoyable it whatever mode you play it.
The campaigns are of a decent length and cannot be completed in 2 hours.
The realistic side of the game is quite believable.
You will not find a better melee attack in any game anywhere!
The gore, weapons and interactions are extremely good.
All the weapons are enjoyable to use, even if some are total bullshit.
You play as a player, not as a computer character

Things we do not like: (N) :@ 8o|
The story is a bit like star wars. Not too much though.
The characters and storyline are far inferior to those of previous Killzones.

So should I have done something different? No.
9.5/10 (fuckyea) ^^ (Y)
The game is just so enjoyable and it actually makes you feel as if you are fighting a war. I was a little hesitant to test this at first, I quickly got into the game and was very impressed by it. It is just a shame that it never got the reviews it deserved, until today.
Available on XBOX 360 and PS3.
